The Season of "The Boss Witch"

I have always felt that Lammas (or Lughnasadh) is the most underrated Sabbat on the Wheel of the Year. Occurring at the peak of summer heat, usually around August 1st, it is the festival of the First Harvest. Historically, this was a time of high anxiety and high reward: The "grain mother" was cut, and the community found out if they would survive the winter. It's the energetic pivot point where potential turns into reality. You can't just hope for the crop anymore, you have to go out into the field, sweat, and cut it down.

What I respect about Anderson and Diaz’s interpretation in this seventh deck is they reframe this agricultural labor as modern ambition. Specifically, the energy of the "Boss Witch." Instead of just baking bread and being passive, this deck demands you look at your own definitions of success. It asks the uncomfortable questions: Did you do the work? Are you ready to claim the reward? It moves away from the soft focus of spring planting and into the sharp, golden light of summer reaping.

This deck is designed to support you as you nourish your dreams and chase your desires. It captures that specific feeling of late summer—the buzzing cicadas, the heavy heat, and the satisfaction of a job well done. If you've been struggling with Imposter Syndrome or feeling guilty about wanting success, I find the invocations in this guidebook particularly helpful for grounding those feelings in the reality of the harvest.

Ritual Guide: The “First Fruits” Audit

    Time needed: 30 minutes.

A spread and reflection ritual designed to evaluate current progress and identify what is ready to be harvested in your life.

    1. The Inventory (Reflection)

Before shuffling the cards, look back at what you planted during Imbolc or Ostara. Take a journal and write down the three primary goals or intentions you set earlier in the year.

Lammas calls for honest assessment. Which goals are actively growing, and which have stalled or failed? A harvest requires maturity, not effort alone. There's no shame in acknowledging what did not take root and choosing to release it.

    2. The Reaping (The Spread)

Shuffle the deck and draw three cards, laying them from left to right.

The Grain: What have I successfully cultivated that is ready to be harvested now?

The Scythe: What labor, effort, or friction is required to bring this to completion?

The Loaf: How should this success be celebrated, reinvested, or preserved for the coming winter?

    3. The Offering (Gratitude)

Lammas is a festival of gratitude and circulation. Once the reading is complete, take a tangible action to acknowledge the abundance present in your life.

This may include baking and sharing food, giving a gift, or donating resources. The lesson of this deck is that hoarded success stagnates. To keep momentum flowing, the harvest must be shared.

    The Tarot Fellow Standard

I stock the Seasons of the Witch series because they are consistently one of the most accessible entry points for working with the Wheel of the Year. I source these from a distributor with relationships with Rockpool, the publisher, to ensure they are authentic editions. While many oracle decks are full of "love and light" fluff, I appreciate that Anderson and Diaz aren't afraid to include cards that address the shadow side of the seasons, the rot that comes before the rebirth. It’s a grounded, practical tool for anyone trying to sync their modern life with the rhythm of the earth.
